India has been trying to mend fences with Pakistan by extending an olive branch, but it appears that this long time effort is not, has not and will not produce any meaningful results. Mrs. Sushma Swaraj' is in Pakistan these days trying to renew the same effort, but this writer has his apprehension about the outcome. We should not expect any wonders. I am surprised that India has taken this initiative to carry on this dialogue even though in the past India had categorically denied to carry on any discussion with Pakistan till Pakistan stops ceasefire violations on the LoC.. From the past experience, one can conclude that this violation is not going to stop until the mentality of the Islamabad government - specifically the mentality of military establishment of Pakistan - is not changed. They do not even consider LeT and JeM as non-state militant actors. They call them freedom fighters. Pervez Musharraf's latest statement on this topic is a live proof. India ought to take a cue from these statements and should not expect any improvement on the LoC. Arranging these summit talks is a waste of time, energy and resources. The solutions to Kashmir problem is a threefold; one being keep fighting on LoC via off and on skirmishes, second both sides should accept Loc as an international border and stay quietly on their respective sides without any military and non-state actors infiltration; and the third one is the last resort to go to full fledged war and winner takes it all. There is not going to be any other solution at least in the nearest future.
