Ms. Das has her own view about rapes and we should respect it.  However, this writer hold an opinion that a strict punishment in place for the rapists definitely serves as a deterrence to the culprits.  It is true that a display of cleavage and other parts of the body for females attracts the opposite sex, but there is no reason that the female community should be placed under any kind of restriction not to use moderate western clothes.  You don't want to take the country to the 7th century.  Therefore, in my opinion, moderate fashionable clothes are not the main reason of this problem, but the lack of severe punishment for such criminals is something the legislators ought to ponder upon.  Ms. Das is comparing the culture of other countries with the Indian culture which, in my opinion, is not the right way to handle this menace.  The purpose of enforcing strict punishment for such criminals is very psychological.  Once a criminal knows that there is a good possibility that he may be hanged, if proven guilty, he will think ten times before he proceeds for such crime.  THE BURDEN IS ON THE SHOULDERS OF INDIAN LAW MAKERS TO SAVE THE FABRIC OF A CIVILIZED SOCIETY BY ENACTING SEVERE PUNISHMENT - NO ONE SHOULD BE ABOVE THIS LAW - FOR RAPISTS.
