As we all know, the temples in India have tonnes of gold and other ornaments donated by the Indians and currently it is just sitting in their vaults and/or basements.  By hoarding these assets, temples are not making use of these valuables.  I think it is a very good idea to deposit these valuables with the Indian government and open their accounts with the central bank equivalent to the market value of these assets.  These accounts will generate a periodical interest, and with that cash, the trustees of a respective temple can decide how to best manage the temple by creating more modern facilities for the devotees and refurbishing the temples.  Also, this additional gold and ornaments in the exchequer will help the Indian government to bargain with the foreign governments from the position of economic strength and keep these valuables in a safe custody.  It is a win-win situation.
